The Japanese company printer production Epson announced that will terminate the sale and distribution laser printers by 2026, citing sustainability issues.
According to the company, inkjets printers they have "better possibilities" than lasers in terms of the environment. The company has already stopped selling laser printers to many markets, but continues them in Asia and Europe. But even though it will stop distributing laser printers, Epson said it will continue to support consumers with supplies and spare parts.
"As a company we are fully committed to sustainable innovation and action, and inkjet printers simply use less energy and fewer consumable parts," Epson sales and marketing director Koichi Kubota explained in a canned statement.
“While laser printers work by heating the toner to get it onto a page, the technology Epson inkjet works without heat and consumes less electricity using engineering for splashing ink on the page.”
