Eraser is an advanced security tool for Windows that allows you to completely erase sensitive data from your hard drive. The application will delete your sensitive files by replacing them many times with carefully selected patterns.
When you "delete" a file, you may think it has disappeared. Not exactly… When you delete a file, your operating system does not actually delete it from the disk.
The file will remain on the disk until another file is created on it. Even after that, it may be possible to recover data by studying the magnetic fields on the disk surface.
This way deleted files can be recovered with a deletion recovery utility.
Eraser is supported on Windows XP (with Service Pack 3), Windows Server 2003 (with Service Pack 2), Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, 8, 10 and Windows Server 2012, and 2016.
Works with any drive in Windows. Secure deletion methods are supported out of the box. Deletes files, folders and traces that existed before them.
Eraser is a free software and its source code is released under the GNU General Public License.
