The iPhone Fold is one of the most anticipated devices that Apple is set to unveil this September. So far, we've heard plenty of rumors and reports about Apple's first foldable device, but the latest leak comes from iOS 27 beta code and hints at a dual-battery iPhone project.
Apple recently released the beta version of iOS 27 to developers. An in-depth look at the software by Macworld uncovered some interesting references to an iPhone with two internal batteries, which could hint at the upcoming iPhone Fold.
Macworld he says that it found new “Battery Health” code in the iOS 27 beta that refers to an iPhone with multiple internal batteries. One piece of the code states: “The batteries in this iPhone are performing as expected,” while another reads: “The health of the batteries in this iPhone has significantly degraded.” Another excerpt states that one of the batteries has not been verified as a genuine Apple battery.
Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and iPhone Fold this September. Realistically, you can't put two batteries in a regular iPhone, although reports suggest Apple will increase battery capacity across the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro lineup.
However, the iPhone Fold will feature a passport-style folding design, making the dual-battery configuration much more practical. Furthermore, Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station claimed that the iPhone Fold would use a dual-cell battery, with the two cells rated at 1.921mAh and 2.962mAh, respectively. Overall, the iPhone Fold could offer a total battery capacity of 4.883mAh.
For comparison, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 has a 4.400mAh battery, while the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold has a 5.015mAh battery. Apple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has also reported that the iPhone Fold will use the same high-density battery cell technology used in the ultra-thin iPhone 17.
