The European Parliament became the target of a cyber attack shortly after MEPs approved a resolution labeling Russia a "state sponsor of terrorism".
"I confirm that the Parliament has been cyberattacked, but the relevant agencies are doing their job well," Dita Charanzová, MEP from the Czech Republic and Vice-President of the European Parliament in charge of cybersecurity, said in a statement.
This is a denial of service (DDOS) attack, in which massive amounts of traffic are sent to servers in an attempt to disrupt access of internet users in websites, confirmed Marcel Kolaja, member of the European Parliament of the Czech Pirates party.

“Unfortunately, Russian threat actors trying to undermine Western democracies is not news. The fundamental pillar of all democracies is free and fair elections and votes. Research reports as well as their own claims prove that Russian cyberattacks they focus on electoral processes and infrastructure. DDoS attacks are nothing new, but they can be very powerful. On the other hand, of course, they are very easy to deal with with today's technology. The strengthening of security and creation DDoS resistant environments is not impossible. The current geopolitical situation requires concerted efforts for cross-border security at the physical level as well as in cyberspace to safeguard democracy."
