A road safety plan is being prepared in which vehicles will "talk" to each other

The US is preparing the V2X road safety plan, where every vehicle on the road will be able to exchange information with all the others, which could prevent thousands of accidents.

The US Department of Transportation has drawn up a national road safety plan which will allow cars to communicate with each other. The agency hopes the widespread deployment of vehicle-to-everything (V2X) technology will help reduce accidents.

V2X will allow vehicles to stay in touch with each other, as well as pedestrians, cyclists, other road users, and road infrastructure. It will allow them to share information such as their location and speed, as well as road conditions. They could do this in situations with poor visibility, such as in corners or in dense fog, etc.

V2X is based on the wireless connection of mobile telephony and thus will require the installation of a special machine in each vehicle, which will be able to communicate effectively and safely while protecting people's personal information.

The agency said smaller-scale deployments of V2X across the US country have demonstrated safety benefits. Safety advocates claim the technology could prevent hundreds of thousands of accidents and mitigate the impact of the crashes that do occur by reducing impact speed.

The timeline for the US Department of Transportation (DoT) plan extends to 2036, by which time it hopes to have fully deployed V2X throughout the National Highway System. In the short term, the agency aims to install V2X technology on 20% of the National Highway System and 25% of signalized intersections in major metropolitan areas by 2028.

As you can imagine, V2X is not a new concept. Several automakers, including Audi, Toyota and Volkswagen, have long been working on ways to communicate between their cars and city infrastructure, in part because that plays a factor in autonomous driving.

And if you say again "we don't care, we don't live in the USA", we assume that what happens there eventually becomes the norm and goes everywhere.
