EU Preparing anti-monopoly action against Google

The battle between her Google and EU are dated by 2010 when the European Commission launched antitrust investigation in Google claiming that the company has abused its dominant position in internet searches.European flag Google

Last year, the EU announced an agreement according to which Google it should also feature links to competing services within its results, as well as make it easier for them and publishers to work with competing businesses.

But the former Competition Commissioner Joaquín Almunia opened the case again in September following a series of charges from Google's rivals asking for further concessions.

The current head of the Competition Commission, Margrethe Vestager, said in November that she would investigate Google's search business practices.

As the Journal reported, Google could reach a deal even if the antitrust charges are filed. But however we do it, it's a big deal, similar to the long-running Microsoft-EU case that cost the company more than $1 billion dollars in fines.

The EU is also scrutinizing Google's operating system, , but since last year, no decision has been made on whether a formal investigation procedure should be initiated.

In the US, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), 2013, found that Google was not unfairly accused of manipulating search results, using them to promote its own products, and degrading competing businesses.

There has been some discussion about this investigation just last month, as reported by leaked documents, but the FTC has denied any action.
