The president of the European Commission Jean Claude Juncker announced today that the European Commission will allocate free Wi-Fi in public areas of the European member states Unionuntil 2020.
"We are proposing to equip every European village and town with free wireless internet access around the main centers of public life from 2020," said European Union President Jean-Claude Juncker.
As part of the EU initiative to improve Europe's digital infrastructure, there are also plans to provide 5G mobile connectivity across Europe from 2025.
Jean-Claude Juncker also said that the EU is committed to revising its existing copyright laws in order to better protect works and the rights of artists and creators on the Internet.
To achieve a higher target WiFi4EU), the EU plans to spend 120 million in the next few years to equip parks, squares, libraries and other public places with free Wi-Fi.
Local authorities will be responsible for any current expenses.
