Euro-Office available for everyone from June 9th

After the announcement of the development of Euro-Office in March, the first version will be available for download by all users on June 9Euro-Office allows businesses, public authorities and other organizations to become independent of Microsoft Office or Google Docs, allowing them to create and edit documents, spreadsheets and presentations collaboratively.

The project is the result of a collaboration between European companies and organizations, including IONOS, Nextcloud, Eurostack, XWiki, OpenProject, Soverin, Abilian, BTactic, OpenXchange and Office.eu. Many of these partners provide development resources for Euro-Office and continue to expand them, creating jobs and promoting innovation in Europe. In April, IONOS and Nextcloud began recruiting a dedicated development team for Euro Office.

Integration into existing solutions and ecosystems

The first stable version of Euro-Office is set to be widely adopted and integrated into collaboration solutions, such as file sharing platforms, online wikis or project management tools.

The office suite will be released as an integration into solutions from participating companies, including the latest Nextcloud Hub 26 Spring release. IONOS Managed Nextcloud customers will be able to install Euro Office after launch. IONOS’ Nextcloud Workspace offering is scheduled to launch later this summer. French company XWiki is expected to integrate it in the fourth quarter of this year. Office.eu, based in the Netherlands, will also launch it.

Focus on stable performance and safety

Since the launch of Euro-Office, the focus has been on releasing a stable and secure version as soon as possible.

“Our top priority was to deliver a version that people could actually work with. First, we had to clean up the code, implement some security updates, and integrate Euro-Office with existing solutions,” says Frank Karlitschek, CEO of Nextcloud.

“The next step is to work on desktop and mobile apps and integration features. For a truly mainstream solution, it is also important to fully support open standards, such as ODF formats, and this will be at the top of the agenda for the next release.”

Another goal of the project is to make it as easy as possible for developers to participate in open source development. To this end, automated tests have been set up, code comments have been translated into English, documentation has been improved, and the code has been cleaned up.
