In Athens the euroCRIS Strategic Membership Meeting

The "euroCRIS Strategic Membership Meeting", the annual Meeting of the partners and community of euroCRIS, the international organization dealing with Current Research Information Systems (CRIS), will take place in Athens this year. The event is organized by euroCRIS in with the National Documentation Center (EKT) on November 8-10 at the National Research Foundation ("L. Zervas" Amphitheater, Vas. Konstantinou 48, Athens).

The event "euroCRIS Athens Strategic Membership Meeting" is aimed at researchers, as well as those interested in research infrastructure based on Information and Communication Technologies (CRIS, digital repositories and journals) or involved in the management and dissemination of research and innovation (funding programs , utilization of research results, strengthening of business competitiveness).

At this year's meeting on "Towards optimal Research information Infrastructures on a national and international level", special emphasis will be given to the course of a European research information infrastructure and the conclusions from the current initiatives and collaborations taking place in Europe will be presented, as well as in global level.

To attend the Meeting is required on the site www.eurocris.org, Deadline for registration is November 1, 2016.

Two special national sessions, with Greek speakers from research centers and universities, concerning the creation of optimal information infrastructures at local, national and international level, are also held at the meeting.

It is noted that Current Research Information Systems (CRIS) have been widely spread in recent years in academic/research institutions, mainly in the European Union. CRIS systems are recommended by as the systems on which the large pan-European measurement infrastructure of European research can be built.

As noted by the organizers, the subject of the Meeting is essential and timely for a number of reasons. Information research infrastructures are becoming more and more important for those who produce and exploit research data and information, whether they are the researchers themselves (for maximum exposure and discovery of their research and data), or for managers of research bodies (for better direction , monitoring and comparison of research), or funders (to better assess their investment), or policy makers (as a basis for documenting strategy development and Amat). All the above stakeholders benefit substantially from optimal, standardized information research infrastructures.

At the international level, a typical example is the initiative for Open Science "European Open Science Cloud Initiative", which started by the European Union with the aim of creating optimal scientific research and data infrastructures at the European level.

Detailed information on the Meeting, the program and the registration form are available on the EuroCRIS websites (www.eurocris.org) and the National Documentation Center (www.ekt.gr).

The importance of CRIS systems and the role of the ESF at national level

Systematic and standardized recording of research activity in research organizations is at the core of CRIS systems that record research activity through the Common European Research Information Information Format (CERIF), a powerful international standard that enables the semantic and chronological interconnection of a very large a wealth of research data. The CERIF model has been developed by the euroCRIS organization, with the active contribution of the ESF, which has been a member since 1997, while since 2009 it has been a member of the Board of Directors.

Based on the CERIF standard, numerous data are semantically and chronologically interconnected, highlighting the overall picture of the research activity of actors and countries, and emphasizing the recording of the results of the research activity (publications, patents, research data) and their connection to the environment in (researchers, organizations, funded projects and projects, research infrastructures, services).

The ESF has developed the Greek CRIS software platform that will form the backbone of a national CRIS infrastructure. The national CRIS infrastructure will include the individual systems that will operate in academic and research institutions and the central accumulator operating in the ESF, which will be fed with information from the individual systems of the institutions. Two pilot applications were implemented within the platform development, at the University of Patras with the collaboration of the Library and Information Center of the University, and the National Hellenic Research Foundation.

The CRIS software platform is available, through the cooperation of the ESF and the Association of Greek Academic Libraries (SEAB), to the academic institutions - members of SEAB for the development of CRIS institutional systems. Experts from SEAB participated in the definition of the requirements for the development of the platform, at the invitation of the ESF.

The CRIS platform is already available at 16 Universities and TEIs, and in the future it can be used by a wider range of research stakeholders, such as research centers, public and private healthcare providers.

The development of the CRIS software platform and the national CRIS accumulator for the Greek academic and research bodies took place in the framework of the project "National Information System of Research and Technology / Social Networks - Content Produced by Users" (www.epset.gr) which was implemented by the ESF in the framework of the Operational Program "Digital Convergence" (NSRF), with the co-financing of Greece and the European Union - European Regional Development Fund.
