Facebook's Meta Platforms will change the way it shows users posts and videos on its largest social network.
The move is part of an effort to get people to follow content from accounts they don't already follow and compete with video app TikTok.
The main feed on Facebook will now be called "Home" and will be a place where people "discover new content" that Facebook thinks they will like, according to a post on the company's blog.
Posts will include photos and videos selected by algorithms, which will display content based on users' interests, from both followed and unfollowed accounts.
The changes are supposed to start on Thursday, but most of the content will still come from accounts that users follow, a Meta person said.
The company plans to increase the new content it shows over time as it improves the algorithm that chooses what users see.
A new tab, called “Feeds,” will exclusively display posts from friends, family, pages and groups a person follows, with the most recent content at the top.
“The Home tab will be uniquely personalized for you,” he says the company on its blog. "The new system will take into account thousands of parameters to help reduce clutter and rank content in the order we think you'll like."
