The announcement was made on Twitter by the head of policy of Facebook Nathaniel Gleicher, who said the new one-click tool will enable privacy settings for timeline posts and prevent profile photos from being downloaded or shared.

This feature will encourage users to "limit what strangers can see". The tool will not be on Instagram, but the photo-sharing app will bring “pop-ups ” which will explain the ways to lock these accounts as well.

Gleicher added that the company is also temporarily hiding lists of friends' accounts in the country and encouraged people with Facebook friends living in Afghanistan to change their privacy settings for their friends list.
