To make the dream of millions of people around the world come true, but above all the dream of Mark Zuckerberg, the initiative InternetFacebook's .org is testing a method for delivering the Internet via laser.
The idea behind Facebook's Connectivity Lab is that by using lasers to drones and on satellites they could beam a message to almost anywhere.
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg says the technology could "dramatically increase the speed at which data is sent over long distances."
While the rays in the image below are visible, Zuckerberg mentions that they actually won't be. Zuckerberg with his post on social network he didn't explain how the program might work, but Facebook has already demonstrated the method.
Facebok's Connectivity Lab has long been working with drones and Facebok has released a whitepaperPDF) describing a plan for the use of Free Space Optics for laser internet delivery.
Facebook said: “The lasers used in FSO (Free Space Optics) systems provide extremely high bandwidth and capacity, just like terrestrial networks fiber optic," but also noted that the lasers must be precisely calibrated and "line-of-sight is required between the two ends of the link, which means they won't work through clouds and will be very vulnerable to bad weather."
