The company hopes that this application will offer easier access to people from developing countries. Messenger Lite is smaller than 10MB, and offers all the basic features of the main application, such as: sending text, photos and links.
Users will be able to receive stickers but will not be able to download them.
Messenger Lite complements Facebook Lite, a basic version of the social network app for cell phones which was released last June in India and the Philippines.
Messenger Lite was first launched in Kenya, Tunisia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Venezuela. The company notes that it will available and in other countries in the coming months.
