A former Facebook employee has sued the company and claims her work caused post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), according to Motherboard.
Selena Scola worked as an external Facebook partner through a company called Pro Unlimited. Selena's job was to identify and remove content from the larger social network that violated Community standards, such as hate speech, images of violence, self-harm, intimidation, nudity and sexual content.
According to Scola's lawyers, their client developed PTSD due to "continuous and undivided exposure to extremely toxic and extremely awful images in the workplace". They also claim that Facebook does not have the appropriate mental health services to monitor its employees.
On the other hand, Facebook said in the Motherboard that it provides mental health services to its employees. He also stated that he also provides educational procedures for mental well-being.
It will be interesting to see how this will go forward, as it could have wider implications for companies that require similar work from their executives. Facebook currently has about 7.500 people who only work to locate and remove any unacceptable content. According to Moneycontrol, this number is expected to increase in 20.000 people with workers from India who will have annual earnings from 3.100 up to 5.500 dollars.
