Usually on the internet and especially on social networks, such as Facebook, we see happy moments being displayed by our friends. But there are times when you will see really sad posts from people searching the Web for a way out to ask for help.
Facebook seems to have realized this, and so a tool is being released worldwide that allows anonymous reporting if you think a friend of yours might want to commit suicide.
The New York Times reports that the new tool works like a regular button that will let you report publications, but also choose to let Facebook itself offer a help or support line to guide people who are having a difficult time.
Previously, this tool was available only for some English-speaking users, but starting today it's rolling out globally. Facebook says it has a team dedicated to monitoring reports coming from the tool 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Here we should mention what it means to analyze data. Facebook's Big Data is known to hide treasures.
In 2014, Facebook had a lot of problems when it was revealed that it handles user schedules by prioritizing positive news over negative messages. The social experiment was conducted by the largest social network to see how it can affect the user's emotions.
However, we also know that Facebook's algorithm gives priority to posts that have "Congratulations" comments and wishes in general. This is why you almost always see updates from friends celebrating anniversaries, name days, birthdays, christenings, weddings, etc.
According to the New York Times, Facebook researchers also found that posts with negative connotations elicited comprehensible comments.
So in an age where smartphones and social media are an extension of ourselves, the movement of FB is a small but apt step that will provide help and social work.
