Facebook new terms against harassment and hate speech

Facebook has updated the terms of the community (TOS or Terms of Service) to help users understand what they can and can not share on the social network.facebook TOS

The revised guidelines clarify Facebook's policies on a number of issues, such as her harassment, threat of violence, self-harm, and hate speech. The tries to strike a balance between blocking offensive content and allowing freedom of expression on its network.

Facebook forbids harassment of other users, the threat of sexual violence, the promotion of self-inflicted violence and the support of terrorist organizations. It also abolishes the hate speech that attacks people on the basis of their race, ethnicity, ethnic origin, religious beliefs and sexual orientation.

The company says it will attempt to review cases brought to it in order to preserve users' freedom to share their ideas. For example, it will consider the depicting violence or human rights abuse to determine whether it has been posted for sadistic pleasure or to raise awareness of these issues, before deciding whether or not to delete it.

Also on its relevant website, Facebook states that “the community is based on diversity. This means that you may disagree or be annoyed by something, but because the necessary conditions are not met it may not be possible to remove or block it. For this reason, the social network offers personal settings with which you can control what you will see and what you will not. For example, you can hide posts from people or pages that offend or offend you, or even remove them from your friends list. ”

On the other hand, if Facebook receives a request from a country to remove some content, because it is illegal or offensive in that country, it will not necessarily have to delete the content, but limit the in that country in question.

The company, according to TNW, also reports that it has seen an increase of 11% in the second half of 2014 from requests by governments of various countries to limit content in the social network compared to the first half.

The Facebook It added that "it will continue to press governments around the world to reform their surveillance practices in a way that maintains the security and protection of their peoples while safeguarding the rights and freedoms that are protected."
