FBI: will not view browsing history without warrant… for now

First the good news. The United States Senate has rejected a proposal that would have given the FBI increased surveillance powers, such as the ability to search the browsing our internet without a warrant.FBI

The bad ones?

The same proposal that has been rejected and we could see a modified version of the same proposal in the near future.

The measure, which was introduced earlier this week by Sen McCain, είχε σαν στόχο να δώσει στο FBI την άμεση εξουσία – όπως είπε ο McCain – “να παρακολουθεί μοναχικούς λύκους” στον απόηχο της μαζικής δολοφονίας στο νυχτερινό κέντρο διασκέδασης του earlier this month.

Η πρόταση απορρίφθηκε με διαφορά μόλις δύο ψήφων, και μία από τις δύο ήταν από τον McConnell (R-Kentucky), που άλλαξε την ψήφο του την τελευταία στιγμή.

McConnell could make the new bill a reality. Please note that a modified version of it is being prepared for review as early as next week.
