DBA Press and the Center for Media and Democracy released FBI files on its hacktivists teams LulzSec. The heavily redacted files were released by the FBI on December 6, 2013, in response to a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request filed on August 9, 2013.
The main points of the publications released include:
- - Discussions by the activist Sabu informant about Backtrace Security, a by-product group of Anonymous, who had the opposite view on the political activities of both Anonymous and LulzSec.
One of Backtrace Security's goals was to locate Lulzsec members and stop their operations.
The most visible result of Monsegur's "work" on behalf of the FBI was the arrest and conviction of Jeremy Hammond. Hammond was found guilty and sentenced to ten years in prison in federal prison in November for his role in piracy and the leak of private files companysecurity/information, Strategic Forecasting (Stratfor).
