Today, 22 November 2016, the Fedora Project team officially announced the release of the new Fedora 25 operating system. Open Source is running for six months. But today it is available for download but only for the Workstation version, which comes with the GNOME 3.22 interface preloaded.
Fedora in version 25, replaces the old one X11 server with the new Wayland. The goal of the developers of the operating system is to provide a smoother, richer experience for the end user when navigating the new Fedora Workstation, as stated by Paul W. Frields, former leader of the Fedora Project.
"You can still select the old X11 server if needed. After selecting the login user, use the settings icon to change display server. But this new display server is designed to keep up with the modern operating system and hardware. ”
Please note that Wayland is not currently for games, which means you want to play, you need to switch to the X.Org (X11) display server especially in very demanding games.
Among other remarkable changes that brings the new functional is: the addition of a new tool called Fedora Media Writer, promising to create live USB sticks from ISO. The new Fedora offers MP3 file support, and improved support for Universal Flatpak binary packages.
The issue of compatibility with extensions of GNOME Shell has finally been fixed, which means that the old plugins will be fully supported in Fedora 25 Workstation. As for Fedora 25 Spins, available are: KDE Plasma 5.8 LTS, Xfce 4.12, MATE 1.16, Cinnamon 3.2, and LXDE.
The new Fedora 25 Linux uses the latest Linux 4.8 kernel.
