The Fedora team has announced the release of a new snapshot of the distribution. The Fedora 34 distribution comes with a number of major changes, such as GNOME 40, the replacement of PulseAudio with PipeWire, and the default Btr file system that allows transparent inclpressure.
"Since Fedora Linux 33 brought BTRFS as the default file system for surface variants work, Fedora Linux 34 enables transparent compression for more disk space. This increases the duration media life performed flash by reducing amplification enrollments for solid-state disks. This compression improves read, write and performance for larger files, potentially saving significant time in workflows. With a foundation for future improvements, we aim to keep adding to these features in future releases.
Desktop audio will change from using PulseAudio on PipeWire for better mixing and better management of audio streams. PipeWire is better designed to meet the needs of containers and applications running through Flatpaks. ”
