Firefox uses an addon to integrate Adobe Flash, which is installed on the system, and into the browser. Google Chrome and other Chromium-based browsers use built-in Flash support.
Flash in Firefox is currently disabled by default, but anyone can enable it if required by some webpages. Flash is the only NPAPI add-on still supported by Firefox. Support for other NPAPI-based add-ons, such as Microsoft Silverlight, has been abandoned by Firefox 52, which was released in March 2017.
Mozilla today revealed the version of Firefox and the month it will completely remove Flash from Firefox. Flash is scheduled to be removed in Firefox 84 Stable, a version that will be released in December 2020. Flash support will be removed earlier than dev versions. From Firefox Nightly for example, it will be removed in October 2020.
Of course there is always the possibility that these plans will change, due to unbalanced factors. It seems a bit unlikely though, as Adobe will not release any other security updates for Flash in 2021.
Google plans to stop supporting Flash from Chromium in January 2021 with the release of Chrome 88. The change will affect all other Chromium-based web browsers.
