Mozilla will extend the beta cycle for Firefox 89, which means that we will see the release on June 1 instead of May 18, which should have been released normally.
The change in program noticed by German blogger Sören Hentzschel, who reported that the delay has been set to application, to have more time for its developers Mozilla to test the new Proton UI.
With Firefox 89 in a six-week beta cycle, Firefox 90 will also have the same growth period in the Nightly branch before everything returns to the normal four-week cycle.
Firefox 88 (next version) will be the latest version of Firefox to be released with the old release cycle on April 20, and subsequent releases will be two weeks late from their scheduled dates.
Firefox 89 is currently in the Nightly branch. Of course as growth continues, users can download Firefox Nightly now to try out the new Proton UI. The most notable change with the new one interface is that tabs will hover at line tabs instead of appearing to be fixed in the URL bar.
It will be interesting to see how Mozilla will use the two extra weeks of beta testing.
Reddit users have already started to they complain for the Proton experience and report that they consume a lot of space but also that there are no optical separators between the tabs.
