The Mozilla Foundation has announced the release of Firefox Monitor. This is a free service that has been tested since the summer and it informs Firefox users (and not only) if they have leaked their data to the Internet.
Firefox Monitor is the product of a cooperations with Troy Hunt, creator of 'Have I Been Pwned,' and to make it work uses Site API.
Ο τρόπος με τον οποίο λειτουργεί η “νέα” υπηρεσία θα είναι γνώριμος σε όποιον έχει χρησιμοποιήσει την ιστοσελίδα του Troy Hunt, Have I Been Pwned. In case it discovers something, it will inform the interested party about whether their data is circulating on the internet.
The purpose of Firefox Monitor is to allow users to respond to data breaches in a timely manner, giving them the opportunity to take proactive measures to stop further surprises, with a change των κωδικών πρόσβασης αλλά και την ενεργοποίηση του ελέγχου ταυτότητας δύο παραγόντων (2FA).
Although Firefox Monitor doesn't do much more than the 'Have I Been Pwned' page does, it makes the tool available to a much larger audience. Firefox is already installed on hundreds of millions of computers, and too many of the users who use the Mozilla Foundation's browser have no idea whether their data is freely circulating on the Internet.
The Mozilla Foundation has promised to provide a complete security tool and protectionof end-user privacy this fall, and the Firefox Monitor service appears to be the first to launch.
