Flickering on screen A reason why it happens and its solution

I was called to find the problem in a system with a 2K screen, windows 11, graphics card - processor etc 1 ½ years old, connection with DisplayLink, etc where for a few days flickering was detected on the screen, under certain conditions.hhj

More detailed.

It did not appear when playing video through VLC, nor when writing letters, updating excel documents, managing and exploring files, surfing the internet.

It ONLY displayed it when having a Facebook profile open, while scrolling the mouse down, the screen happened to be showing a video at that moment. And this without the automatic playback of Facebook videos being activated.

Simply, as soon as a video appeared on the screen, the flickering started. A fact that stopped when, by going down the page, there was no longer any video.
Also, this annoying state of Flickering did NOT occur when pressing Alt - Tab, I brought "forward" some other task - background window.

The bad thing about it was that I didn't know where to start. Since changing the cable? From changing AMD's screen, graphics card, drivers? I checked that the whole system updates were ok, but nothing showed up as a solution.

My thought went to log into facebook through another browser to see if Flickering occurs. A thought that I literally forgot while feeling anxious about what is going … wrong.

I left it for 2 days until I asked for help, the opinion of a great friend, human and IT professional

– what browser are you using? it was his first conversation
– Firefox, I replied.
– There are problems there with the configuration of the videos, he replied.

I don't hide the fact that, during the (minimal) time the above story took place and with my friend on the phone, I had entered Firefox - Tools - settings - General - I typed in the search bar: acceleration (step 1) - I unchecked the use of recommended settings ( step 2) and using hardware acceleration when available (step 3), I restarted firefox and yyy ALL GOOD!

Fine without flickering!bro

And a tip for those who don't like it (neither do I) that it shows the right click of windows 11.

If you want to have the old and "familiar" right-click option mask when selecting a file, just press Shift on your keyboard at the same time.

  1. Good evening.
I also had a similar problem as you describe it exactly. My pc runs windows 10, amd fx8320 processor, Ati R9 380 graphics card, MSI 970 gaming motherboard and LG FHD 1080p monitor. Much older machine than the one you dealt with. The problem I was also presented only in firefox and I had read the solution you finally came up with in some forum. However, I found another one, experimenting with the settings of the graphics card. The driver of the card is:
    AMD Software: Adrenaline Edition
Revision Number Adrenalin 22.6.1 Recommended (WHQL)
Not to mention, in the video settings, of the many profiles it has, the only one that didn't flicker in the videos was "Default", everything else showed flickering. And this solution worked without having to disable the hardware acceleration in firefox.
That's it from me, I hope you found my solution useful and maybe it will be useful in the future
    Thanks
