Floorp browser 12.15.3: zero telemetry and customization capabilities

Floorp is a free, open-source web browser from Japan, based on Mozilla Firefox. It is designed to offer high privacy and advanced customization capabilities, without requiring the user to install additional CSS files.floorp

Main characteristics:

  • Privacy Protection: It automatically blocks online trackers and does not collect personal browsing data.
  • Productivity Tools: It has built-in Workspaces that combine tab groups with isolated containers for better organization.
  • Side Panels (Web Panels): Allows quick access to chat and social media applications directly from the sidebar.
  • High Customization: You can change the location of the address bar and set up mouse or keyboard shortcuts.
  • Without Telemetry: Disables Mozilla's usage data collection by default.

Floorp excels in customization and productivity, while Firefox remains simpler and more stable for the average user. Compared to Chromium-based browsers (like Chrome or Brave), Floorp offers better RAM management and stronger ad protection due to Firefox's architecture.

Floorp vs Mozilla Firefox

  • Interface Design: Floorp allows you to completely change the appearance (e.g. vertical tabs, hidden bars) through the standard menus. In Firefox, for the same changes you have to manually modify userChrome.css files.
  • Tab Management: Floorp has built-in “Workspaces” and “Containers” that work together. You can have a Workspace for work and one for personal use, without getting your cookies mixed up.
  • Data (Telemetry): Firefox sends some anonymous usage data to Mozilla to improve the software (manually disabled). Floorp has completely removed this code.

Floorp vs Brave & Chrome (Chromium)

  • Ad Blocking: Due to Google's changes to Manifest V3, ad blocking extensions (like uBlock Origin) work better and more freely on Gecko browsers like Floorp, than on Chrome.
  • Resource Consumption: Floorp manages RAM better when you have dozens of tabs open, unlike Chrome which is known for its high system load.
  • Compatibility: Because Chrome dominates the market, some specialized websites (e.g. old corporate applications) may run better on Brave or Chrome than on Floorp.
