Foxconn is a huge technology manufacturing company that we all know. The company makes laptops for HP, phones for Apple, game consoles for Sony, and is based in China.
From time to time the company has made headlines due to the suicides of its staff, which caused a public uproar as it caused the very harsh conditions to be exposed work in its factories. The suicides were attributed to the very stressful hours and low wages. It should be mentioned that the company employs 42.000 workers.
Due to the above, the following news should probably not be surprising:
The head of the test department at the Foxconn plant in Shenzhen was caught picking up the iPhone from the manufacturing plant, specifically from the testing department where he was working.
With great persistence, the director of Foxconn managed to steal 5.700 iPhones from his department, which is said to have redeemed 1.560.000 dollars.
The director of the company, known only by the name of his family, Tsai, was working in mainland China.
According to Taiwan's prosecutors, Tsai ordered eight of his subordinates to smuggle thousands of iPhones used by the company for quality assurance purposes. After testing, the devices were replaced.
The stolen iPhones (mostly iPhone 5 and iPhone 5S) found their way to Shenzhen stores, giving Tsai and his accomplices almost 1.560.000 dollars.
Foxconn reported suspicions to the Taiwan authorities after an internal check, and when Tsai returned to the island, he was arrested and interrogated.
Tsai was released on bail but charged with breach of trust. If found guilty of court, faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.
