FTC probes anticompetitive practices in Microsoft's cloud

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is preparing to launch an anti-competitive investigation into Microsoft's cloud computing business, they said the Financial Times on Thursday, as the US regulator continues to crack down on Big Tech companies in the final weeks of Joe Biden's presidency.

The FTC is looking into allegations that Microsoft abuses its power in the productivity software market by imposing punitive licensing terms to prevent customers from moving their data from its Azure cloud service to rival platforms, according to people familiar with the matter.

Tactics being investigated by the federal agency include over-inflating subscription fees for those who leave, charging high exit fees and Office 365 products appearing to be incompatible with competing cloud products.

Of course, time is pressing. Do you think Trump will continue to go after the big tech companies?
