G7 leaders, meeting in Britain, called on Russia to crack down on ransomware groups believed to be operating within its borders after a series of attacks targeting international organizations and critical sectors in other countries. They also pledged to work together to tackle the growing threat of ransomware as a global challenge.
Recall that in early May, the DarkSide group carried out a ransomware attack on the American company Colonial Pipeline and essentially forced President Biden to declare the east coast of America a state of emergency and ultimately pay a ransom of $5 million.
The White House reiterated the United States' commitment to fighting ransomware groups, along with other G7 member states, in a statement released over the weekend.
