Following Samsung's recent recall of 2,5 million Galaxy devices Footnotes 7, the company announced that it will release a software update that will limit the battery capacity to 60 percent, so as to prevent overheating and explosions.
The Associated Press states that Samsung with advertisements published in South Korean newspapers, indicates that the update will be released on September 20.
It appears that the change will only affect Galaxy Note 7 devices sold in South Korea, as one millionfaceA Samsung spokesperson told the BBC that the whole battery issue will be resolved by replacing the devices that will be shipped to the company's customers in Europe.
Of course many are the ones who are not happy with Samsung's plan. Which reason to buy a high end device when battery capacity is limited by operating at 60%?
Samsung on the other hand believes that the software update will help the prevention of overheating. Of course, no one can say for sure that this is the case and that the explosions will stop, since even the company did not know that its device would explode.
Ultimately, the defective batteries should serve as a reminder to gadget makers that the control of quality is paramount.
