Galen Hunt, who claimed that C and C++ will be replaced by Rust using AI, updated his LinkedIn post with the following clarification:

“It seems my post caused a lot more fuss than I intended… with a lot of speculation reading between the lines… Just to clarify… Windows is *NOT* being rewritten in Rust with AI.

My team's work is a research project. We build technology to enable the transition from one language to another. The purpose of my post was to find like-minded engineers to join us in the next stage of this multi-year effort – not to define a new strategy for Windows 11+ or to imply that Rust will be an endpoint . ”

Although Galen Hunt says people were “reading between the lines,” their reaction didn’t come out of nowhere.

His post used a very direct language to transform C and C++ by 2030 using AI and algorithms to rewrite large code bases, along with the goal of “1 engineer, 1 month, 1 million lines of code.”
