Google’s vision for Gemini is to create an assistant that truly understands you, one that evolves with your needs rather than providing one-size-fits-all answers. Today, the company is introducing new features designed to make Gemini feel like it’s tailored to you, rather than just a generic tool that works the same way for everyone.

Today, we’re introducing the Memories setting in Greece, allowing Gemini to learn from your past conversations over time. When this setting is enabled, Gemini remembers key details and preferences you’ve shared, leading to more natural and relevant conversations, as if you were working with a partner who is already up to date.

You've discussed the evolution of character powers in your favorite comic book before. Now, if you ask Gemini to "find a unique birthday party idea," it might suggest a celebration based on your favorite character, complete with themed food and a custom photo booth with props.
You've previously asked Gemini for summaries of some of the most recently recommended non-fiction books from BookTok. When you ask Gemini to recommend a book you'll like, Gemini can suggest books with similar themes and even give you popular quotes for your social media posts.
You’ve used Gemini to come up with ideas for a YouTube channel about Japanese culture. When you ask for “new content ideas based on my interests,” Gemini might suggest a video topic like “The first time I tried…”, where you videotape yourself trying out a new Japanese food, a traditional art (like origami or a tea ceremony), or even a new toy from Japan.
This setting is enabled by default so that Gemini can provide you with more relevant replies, but you are still in control and can turn this setting on or off at any time. To do this, simply go to Settings in the Gemini app and select Personal Box, then Memory. As before, you can manage and delete your conversations in “Gemini App Activity.”
Transferring your memory and chat history to Gemini
We believe the most useful AI assistant is one that is personal to you and understands your preferences and past conversations. However, if you’re curious to try a different option, starting over with an assistant that doesn’t know you can seem daunting.
That's why we're introducing new, easy-to-use switching tools for all personal accounts, so you can easily transfer your memory, context, and conversation history from other Artificial Intelligence (AI) apps directly to Gemini.
Teach Gemini what matters
Starting today, our new memory import feature can easily transfer Gemini’s understanding of your key preferences, relationships, and personal context. Once you import a memory, Gemini will understand the same basic data you’ve shared with other apps, like your interests, your sibling’s name, or where you grew up. Instead of starting from scratch, you can quickly update Gemini with what matters most to you.
To transfer your memory from other Artificial Intelligence (AI) apps to Gemini, go to Settings and select the new import option. You will receive a suggested prompt, which you can copy and paste into the current AI app you are using. Once the other app has generated a summary of your preferences, simply copy that response and paste it into Gemini. Gemini will instantly analyze the information and securely store these details in the Gemini environment, ready for use in your next conversation.
Transfer your complete chat history
We’re also introducing the ability to import your entire chat history. Simply upload a ZIP file of your chat history from other AI providers and seamlessly pick up right where you left off. You can search for your previous chat threads and continue to build on them directly within Gemini.
Switching to Gemini is quick, easy, and secure. Importing your chat history and memory is available starting today on the Settings page.
