generative AI 5 new ways to explore the web

Check out five new updates to AI search features to improve the connection between users, websites, and content creators.

With the rapid advancements in Artificial Intelligence (AI), we’re constantly upgrading productive AI experiences in Search, like AI Mode and AI Overviews. These experiences are especially useful when they make it easier to connect with authentic voices and explore useful information across the web. That’s why we’re continuing to improve the way we display links in AI Search features, while also developing new ways to help you find the sources, brands, and sites you trust.

Here are five new updates to help you explore relevant sites, detailed insights, and original content:

1. Explore new perspectives.

An AI answer is often just the starting point for exploring a topic you’re interested in. To make it easier to explore the web further after your initial question, you’ll start seeing suggestions for next steps in your research at the end of many AI answers.

This section contains links to unique articles or in-depth analyses on different aspects of your topic, so you can easily satisfy your curiosity. For example, a search for how cities have increased green space might return a case study on the successful restoration of a stream in Seoul or a report on the architectural design of the High Line park in New York City.

2. Easily access your news subscriptions.

Your favorite sources should be easy to access. Now, we have a new feature that highlights links from your news subscriptions in AI Mode and AI Overviews, so you can quickly access the content you trust and get more out of your subscriptions.

For publishers who wish to learn more A form is available on how to help their readers connect their subscriptions to Google. In initial testing, it was observed that users were significantly more likely to click on links that indicated their subscriptions.

3. Get advice from people who have been through this process.

For many searches, users are increasingly looking for advice from others. To help them find the most useful insights to explore further, AI-powered answers will now include a preview of opinions from online forums, social media, and other sources of direct experience. We’ve also added more content to these links, like a creator’s name, nickname, or community name, to help you decide which conversations you want to read or participate in.

For example, if you're researching how to take great photos of the Northern Lights, you might see excerpts from a photography forum advising on exposure time, along with clickable links that mention the specific community name so you can jump to the full discussion.

4. See links exactly where you need them.

To help you dig deeper into useful websites as you read, you’ll now see more links directly within AI responses, right next to the relevant text. For example, if you search for information about a bike trip in California, you might see a series of bullet points about the route.

With this update, you can now see a link to a Pacific Coast cycling guide right next to the terrain dot, or a link to a blog post with training suggestions next to the daily distance dot.

5. Get more information about linked websites.

To give you the context you need to explore the web, we now provide a quick preview of a website when you hover over an embedded link in Google AI experiences on desktop. You’ll see useful information like the website name or page title, giving you a better idea of what the page is about before you visit it. We’ve seen that users may hesitate to click on a link if they’re not sure exactly where it’s going. So this update will help users feel more confident about visiting useful websites.

At Google, we will continue to improve how we display and rank links in Search experiences with generative AI, using techniques like query fan-out. This method allows users to explore deeper into the web, finding more relevant sites for their search.

By increasing the visibility and usefulness of links and highlighting authentic voices, we’re shaping Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Search to help users discover the wealth of the web by connecting them directly to the sources and creators they’re looking for. We’ll continue to test, learn, and improve these features based on what best resonates with our audience.
