Getty Images and Shutterstock seem to have issues with AI-engineered images. Getty Images even banned the upload and sale of images created using artificial intelligence art tools such as DALL-E, Midjourney and stable diffusion.
The largest platform of graphic content uploaded by themselves users are bringing this ban, following similar decisions on other sites such as Newgrounds, PurplePort and FurAffinity.
Getty Images CEO Craig Peters told The Verge that the ban was prompted by concerns about the legality of AI-generated content and a desire to protect the site's customers.
“There are concerns about the Copyright of these creations since they have unclear copyrights in relation to the images, the metadata of the images but also the people contained in the images".
Given these concerns, selling AI artwork or illustrations could put the company's users in legal trouble.
Shutterstock, on the other hand, has limited some searches for AI content, but has yet to establish specific policies banning images.
