Sam Robinson said he has spent about 15 years since he last played Tetris in one on Game Boy. On Saturday night, however, he played it on the floors of a skyscraper.
Robinson, is 30 years old, and was among the hundreds of friends of the game who on Saturday night gathered to play with a huge version of the 29th floor of the Cira Center in downtown Philadelphia. The sight was incredible.
The hundreds of LED lights embedded in the glass facade of the building composed the colorful motifs of the game. On Saturday night, oversized "bricks" began to fall from the glass tower as players held joysticks and maneuvered, creating a fantastic spectacle.
Events began throughout the city with a series of events called the Philly Tech Week. as Frank Lee, an associate professor of digital media at Drexel University, said the city celebrated the upcoming 30 anniversary of the game.
Lee, is a game designer who oversaw the creation of the giant screen.
"This project started from a personal letter to gamea that I loved when I was a child. Pong last year, Tetris this year and it ended up being an occasion for the whole city of Philadelphia to come together,” Lee told the crowd.
