From the new one Android Auto, μέχρι τα νέα smartwatches και το Αndroid TV, η Google είχε πολλά να ανακοινώσει κατά την εναρκτήρια ομιλία στο χθεσινό συνέδριο I/O. Παράλληλα όμως με τις μεγάλες ανακοινώσεις της, η company μοιράστηκε επίσης μερικά ενδιαφέροντα στατιστικά στοιχεία σχετικά με την ανάπτυξη της platformof Android.
A rather interesting fact that was announced in the opening speech and we were impressed because it concerned her better safety it was the topic of malware and Google's efforts to "innovate security" on the platform. THE Sundar Pichai, head of the Android development team, said: "Based on the data we see, less than half a percent of users are infected by any malware issues."
But what exactly did Sundar Pichai say?
Those who only heard the percentage and did not try to match it with a number would find the fact extremely encouraging. But let's see what the numbers say. When we're talking about a platform used by a billion users, 0,5% translates to five million users. 5.000.000 people are affected by malware.
Continuing on, Pichai said the company is aiming to provide security updates to Android devices through Google Play to provide security to their users within a maximum of six weeks.
And that sounds quite encouraging as well until we think of the name that has all the new vulnerabilities found by security researchers or malicious users: ZeroDay.
Rather, Google should think much more seriously about Android security unless the number of 5 million victims in front of 1 billion users is considered a justifiable number of collateral losses.
