ARC is a program that allows Android apps to run on Chrome OS, and until now its access was limited to only a small team developers working with Google. As of today, the company has released a new Chrome app packager which allows anyone to run Android applications and other operating systems such as Windows, Mac, Linux and Chrome OS.
The company says in its publication:
The App Runtime for Chrome (Beta), or ARC, lets you run your favorite Android apps on Chrome OS. By following these steps, you can try out the App Runtime for Chrome (Beta) during this Developer Preview. To test your app, you need three things:
- Your APK.
- PC, Mac, Linux, or Chromebook on Chrome Version 40+.
- The ARC Welder app.
The new tool was named ARC Welder, and is a Chrome app that handles mobile-to-desktop with with just a few clicks using the APK file of the Android app.
In addition to his mood ARC Welder for developers, the ARC from today includes Google Play Services, which are necessary for the operation of some applications that use OAuth2, such as Google Cloud Messaging, Google+ and other services of the company.
However, ARC does not yet include all of Google Play Services. Hopefully Google will add them in the near future.
