Yes as the title says, the Google Assistant is now able to read for you SMS messages and more.
Google's digital assistant can read your SMS, Facebook Messenger, or Hangouts messages. Simply say "I have any messages?" Or "Show me my last message" and Google Assistant will read you the latest messages on your mobile.
Google Assistant's ability to read messages is available from today on Appliances Pixel, Pixel XL, and other smartphones with Android. Google Assistant is available for Android Marshmallow or Nougat users.
To add the Google Assistant, Marshmallow or Nougat, you must update to the 6.13 version of Google app, your device should have a resolution of 720p or higher and at least 1.5 GB of free RAM.
Google Assistant can also send messages through WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, SMS, and other chat services.
The addition of reading text messages comes at a time when Google and Amazon are trying to extend the traditional functions of virtual assistant phones.
Last month, the Wall Street Journal reported that both Amazon and Google plan to develop a feature that allows voice phone calls. Citing unnamed sources, Recode reported last week that Alexa is also planning to release a similar device that will be able to automatically make phone calls with voice commands or act as a system intercom.
