If you're Google, you have the luxury of buying whatever you want, no matter what the cost. Today the company buys the top domain .app.
That's it Business Insider reports that the company search won the auction held by ICANN (the agency that controls Internet domains) for the top-level domain (TLD) .app. So the Google has soy, .minna, .foo and .how domains available so far (see iguru.how).
The company has no immediate plans for the .app domain, but it's enough to understand why it bought it. The amount spent by the company on the purchase of the domain is 25 million dollars.
