Google Chrome no longer needs you

Google is integrating Gemini across its products. Just this month, we learned that the AI model can now schedule meeting times on your behalf in Google Calendar, intelligently “search” your Drive and Photos, and leverage the model for multiple use cases in Gmail. Now, Google has announced that it’s making Gemini a core part of your Chrome browsing experience.

For starters, there's a new sidebar experience in Chrome, so you can use Gemini without having to constantly switch between different environments. Nano Banana is available directly in Chrome, and is also accessible through the sidebar, so you can create images or transform them using prompts.

Gemini also supports Connected Apps such as Gmail, Calendar, YouTube, Maps, Google Shopping, and Google Flights in Chrome. You can take advantage of these integrations by enabling them via the Connected Apps section in Gemini's settings.

But the most important are the improvements made to Chrome itself. Personal Intelligence powered by Gemini is coming to Chrome on macOS, Windows, and Chromebook Plus to give you a more personalized, “predictive” browser experience. Through this technology, Chrome will remember content from previous conversations so it can provide you with more personalized responses tailored to your needs.

Finally, Chrome becomes an agent-powered browser through “Chrome auto browse,” which handles multi-step workflows on your behalf. This includes searching for hotels and making hotel and flight reservations, scheduling appointments, filing tax returns, and helping with driver’s license renewals. Even more interestingly, if you give Chrome permission to auto browse, it will even leverage your authentication credentials when a login is required. Chrome auto browse is rolling out to AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in the US.

Of course, there are privacy concerns with all these new apps. However, Google assures its customers that Chrome AutoBrowsing is designed with security in mind. Any Gemini-powered app will always ask for your consent before making purchases or posting to social media on your behalf.
