May Day in

The 1892 was the first May-May gathering in Greece by his Socialist Association Kallergis. It 1893, 2000 protested by calling for eighth, Sunday holidays and state insurance to the victims of industrial accidents.

The 1894, there is a large gathering with them which ends with 10 arrests and in August follows the arrest of the socialist Stavros Kallergis.

The 1936 we have their smokers Thessaloniki. The events began around February, with the occupation of a factory after the workers' demands were rejected, and continued with the support of tobacco workers from other factories. Against them was used both the as well as the army. There was no central gathering, but small gatherings with speakers in different parts of the city.

At a gathering at the intersection of Egnatia and Venizelos, gendarmes shot and killed 7-8 workers. The tobacco worker's monument has been erected at this point. They tried to break up the other gatherings with shots and in total we had at least 12 dead and 300 injured. The murders of the workers were his inspiration Ritsu for the "Epitaph".

Note that in Kesariani on May 1, 1944, Labor Day coincided with Anandri 200 Greek communists who were taken to the Kaisarianis shooting range from the Haidari camp by the German Occupation forces.

So only the Kesariani does not celebrate Labor Day as the rest of the free and democratic world.

The same day is a day of historical honor and memory.
