Today we live in a world where almost everyone agrees that anyone under the age of 18 is a child and is entitled to special care and protection. But that was not the case in the past. Only after 20 in November of 1989, when the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child, humanity began to benefit from a set of rights for all children and young people.

The Convention on the Rights of the Child is the world's first legally binding code of rights for all children to enjoy. It sets basic principles for the well-being of children in their various stages of development and consists of 54 articles.

The Convention was launched at the initiative of the Polish Government and UNICEF, unanimously adopted by the UN General Assembly at 20 Nov. 1989 and 1990 entered into force.

To date, it has been validated by almost all countries of the world, while in Greece 1992 has been ratified (Government Gazette 192 / 2.12.92).
