Google says it will return the to those who purchased Stadia hardware through the Google Store, as well as for all games and additional content purchased from the Stadia Store.

Google says these refunds will be completed by mid-January.

"A few years ago, we launched a consumer gaming service, Stadia," Stadia VP and GM Phil Harrison said in a blog post.

“And while Stadia's approach to streaming games for consumers was built on a strong technological foundation, it didn't win over the users we expected. So we made the difficult decision to end the Stadia streaming service."

Employees of the Stadia team will be distributed to other parts of the company.

Harrison also mentioned that Google sees opportunities to implement it of Stadia to other Google places like the , Google Play and its AR efforts. The company also plans to make the technology available "to our industry partners, which aligns with how we see the future of gaming."
