Google always boasted its maps (Google Maps), a tool in which he has invested a lot of money but which has also cost the company a lot of fines due to the Street View scandal.
Notwithstanding all this, however, the company continued to build the Google Maps application step by step and provide useful information to all users around the world.
The latest addition to Google Maps is designed to help British citizens who travel frequently with public transport, but also a huge number of tourists using by far public transport for their journeys. Including of course the thousands of Greek tourists, since London is a common destination, especially during the holidays.
More specifically, Google has added about 17.000 routes and 34.000 stop points, and since it is one of the largest mapping efforts related to public transport in the UK.
The list includes buses, trains, ships, metro, trams and underground the Guardian newspaper.
Of course, as in many other locations around the world, Google Maps already provides information on public transport in the United Kingdom, but this information will bring much more information, including departure times, transfer information, distance between stops as well as which routes have the fewest transfers so that one can easily reach its destination in the shortest time.
Information on Northern Ireland will be added in the future as the company has no access to these data sources yet.
For UK data, Google Maps has added routes from National Express after signing a partnership with Travelin, which gathers data from 1.500 local and national carriers.
This update was delivered to the Web, Android and iOS this morning. To get directions to a specific place, you just need to type your current location and the point you want to end up with. Then you can select the bus from the transfer options and Maps will give you a number of options that will show you all ways to go from one place to the next.
You can even edit the itineraries and declare the preferred mode of transport, such as the bus or metro.
If you are now wondering when something similar will happen for Greece…. you will probably wait too long. Not only are the data scattered in 10 bodies and difficult to gather in one place, but as we Greeks know we like the stability of the itineraries, the accuracy of the departure and arrival times, as well as the absolute respect for the K.O. .K.
