Google is turning its Maps into a social network. The company has long had a rating function, called "Local Guides", where users are encouraged to post photos and share comments about places they have visited.
In addition, Google lets you follow the "Local Guides" that you consider worthwhile, so you can see their recommendations for other places that have gone. If you like what person X said, then it makes sense to want to see his opinion on other local restaurants, bars, parks, hotels etc. It is a kind of FourSquare / Yelp. Google has the data, the users, and you are likely to already use Maps from these two applications.
According to a Google statement People in Bangkok, Delhi, London, Mexico City, New York, Osaka, San Francisco, Sao Paulo and Tokyo will soon see the "Top Local Guides" appear on the "For You" tab in the mobile app Maps ”. When you follow one of these Local Guides, their recommendations will appear on Google Maps, just for you, so you can be inspired by ideas for things to do and places to go.
The new feature is not yet active, at least on our device, but Google says it will be out soon.
