Thanks to Google Maps, hundreds of tourists visited a small, idyllic town in Norway. Where is the problem; The travelers did not want to visit this particular city which they found 19 miles away from where it should have been.
Tourists were looking for the Preikestolen cliffs, a geological formation in western Norway. When they tried to find a route, a damage to Google Maps sent them to the wrong side of the fjord.
So they started to flood the small town, which the locals could not explain.
The city's inhabitants could not explain the phenomenon, but at the same time enjoyed the turmoil of the tourists. The Norwegian newspaper Stavanger Aftenblad reports:
"They say they want the Preikestolen and they don't understand anything. Google Maps leads them to bridge Lysefjord and in Fossmork. The road is quite narrow and sometimes they seem quite upset when we tell them to go back. … It's quite funny. We talked to Chinese and Japanese and there was an American who wanted to buy a cabin. He thought the venue was fantastic.”
