Set up parental control of Google

One of the first που μαθαίνουν οι ανήλικοι είναι η αναζήτηση της Google. Children use it Google to find everything from information about their work assigned to them by the teacher, to funny videos with animals. In this article we will tell you how to set up Google search so that it does not show adult web pages in the results.

Sometimes kids can get a "wrong turn" on Google and end up in a dark part of the internet that is not appropriate for their age. Usually children stumble completely innocently on inappropriate content, although there are cases where the search is done intentionally by half-listeners who have heard. Either way, parents often wonder what they can do to prevent their children from searching for and finding "bad sites" through Google.

Fortunately, Google has some parental control features - which parents can easily apply without much internet knowledge - which will not completely eliminate but at least significantly reduce the volume of child-restricted websites in search results.

Let's take a look at some Google parental control features you can enable to keep your children's curious eyes away from the wrong side of the web:

What is Google SafeSearch?

Google's Safe Search is one of the main parental control options Google offers to help parents in policing search results. Secure search [SafeSearch] helps by filtering abusive content from search results. It is designed to target primarily sexual material (images and videos) and not violent content.

How to enable Google SafeSearch:

To turn it on Google SafeSearch, visit the website http://www.google.com/preferences

1 On the "Search Settings" page, and in the "Search Results" submenu, check the box labeled "Filter inappropriate results".

2 To lock this setting so that your child can not change it, click the "Lock SafeSearch" link [Lock SafeSearch]. If you are not already signed in to your Google Account, you will need to do so in order to lock SafeSearch to "ON".

Note: If you have more than one web browser on your computer, you will need to perform the Lock SafeSearch procedure above for each of your browsers. Also, if you have more than one profile on your computer (ie your child has a separate user account to log into a shared computer), then you should lock the browser from within your child's profile. Cookies must be enabled for this to work properly .

When you've set up SafeSearch properly whether it's on or not, you'll get one confirmation in your browser.

If you want to check the SafeSearch status to see if your child has found a way to disable it, look at the top of every Google search results page and you'll see a message at the top of the screen that says SafeSearch is locked.

There is no guarantee that SafeSearch will block all inappropriate content, but at least it's better to have it turned on than you have it at all. There is also nothing to prevent your child from using a different search engine to find inappropriate content. Other search engines like Yahoo have their own SafeSearch feature that you can also turn on. Check their support pages for information about parental control.

Enable SafeSearch for mobile devices

In addition to your computer, you'll probably want to enable SafeSearch on mobile as well που χρησιμοποιεί τακτικά το παιδί σας, όπως το smartphone σας, το iPod touch, ή το since he's been driving you nuts all summer to buy him one of these. For instructions on how to enable SafeSearch on a variety of mobile devices check out the Google Safe Browsing support page for mobile devices.

As we all know, children will be children and will always try to test their limits. In this article we put a limit, a roadblock to drive in a different way. It is the ongoing game of cat with the mouse and be sure there will always be some internet door that we as parents will have forgotten to lock. Let's do at least the best we can.
