Google Project Ellman will analyze your life & project your story

Google is reportedly toying with the idea of using its latest AI model Gemini to analyze images from Google Photos and text from Google Search to create a life story for users.gemini

The technology is currently being researched as part of “Project Ellman” and will be powered by Google's new Gemini multimodal language model, announced this week. The idea is to ingest different types of data from multiple sources, such as photos stored in Google Photos or public information sourced from the Internet, to create a more personalized chatbot.

The Project is said to be named after the literary critic and biographer Richard David Ellmann, who specialized in researching Irish writers such as James Joyce, Oscar Wilde, and William Butler Yeats.

Project Ellman will use artificial intelligence to create a biography of users from their personal data.

"We can't answer tough questions or tell good stories without a bird's-eye view of your life," Google says in its presentation slides. “We surf through your photos, looking at their tags and locations to spot a meaningful moment. When we step back and understand your life as a whole, your overall story becomes clear.”

A Google representative declined to comment to The Register's questions about the type of access a user should give to the model in order to collect their personal data.

“This is an idea that came from brainstorming and the team is in the early stages of exploration. As always, we will take the necessary time to ensure that we do so responsibly, putting user privacy as our top priority.”

Gemini will be able to recognize key milestones and important moments in a person's life by looking at things like graduation photos or vacations. In theory it could glean information about the university they attended or the places they went by analyzing information on Google Search.

  1. "... this is an idea that came from brainstorming..." = ... this is an idea that came from some followers of the 3rd and 4th Reich, the NTP where the overlords should know what time we go to the toilet and how much toilet paper we waste every time …
