In less than three months, Google will stop operating it service Picasa. The announcement was made today on the Picasa blog, via a notification that appeared on header of the main website.
Picasa service was started in 2002 by Lifescape, and in 2004 it was bought by Google. Initially its success was great, but with the advent of mobile devices too many were resorting to other solutions.
More and more users started using Facebook or Instagram to store and manage their photos, as the specific services they also support mobile devices.
To address the phenomenon, the company announced last May to launch Google Photos, which, unlike Ricasa, focuses more on mobile devices than on computers.
So today the company announced that it makes no sense to have resources and human resources for two different services that do the same.
"There is an easy way to transfer photos from Ricasa to Google Photos"
Ricasa users can transfer all their albums to the Google Photos service very simply. If you use the service and want to transfer your photos, all you need to do is one sign up for Google Photos.
The Picasa Web Albums service will close 1 in May of 2016, while the development of the Ricasa app will stop on 16 March of 2016.
