“When we started the program Leader Development in February of 2015, we set a goal: to educate 1 for millions of Europeans on important digital skills. Within one year we achieved our goal and we have reached 2 millions. And today, we are pleased to announce it.

This includes trained as Carlo Reviglio: now doing his practice in BikeSquare, an advisory firm that works with Itaway, an Italian tourism company with electric bicycles. THE Carlo he learned SEO and digital marketing skills

His participation in the training program led to the start of his practice with his team BikeSquare, where the Carlo worked to improve the performance of the platform, doubling the number of rentals e-bike through Itaway within just a year.

His success Carlo is remarkable - but fortunately not the only one: It is one of the successful cases of Europeans who are trained in digital skills through Google's programs. According to the European Commission, almost half of the EU population (47%) is not sufficiently educated digitally. This lack of digital skills is expected to create 700.000 vacancies up to 2020. Our programs across Europe are aimed at helping as many people as possible to benefit from the education of digital programs offered by the Internet.tweet

We have heard the call from the European Commission and others: we need to work together to fill this gap in digital skills and today we are particularly proud to have done this work, which has been recognized by the Günther Oettinger, EU Commissioner for the Digital Economy. Today, the Commissioner Oettinger presented the program our leverage rewarding us for our contribution to the digital education of both businesses and individuals.

Our programs are aimed at a wide audience, from entrepreneurs to small businesses , app developers but also people who are just interested. People of all ages with different backgrounds and interests have taken part in our educational programs.

But there is ground for further development, and this is our commitment today Coalition of EU Digital Skills and Jobs. Within the next year, we commit ourselves to continue to support Europeans to acquire basic digital skills through the following initiatives:

  • Digital Workshop – our digital training program provides online and educational programs for anyone who wants to gain substantial knowledge in the field of digital marketing, including job-seekers, entrepreneurs and small businesses.
  • 10,000 Funding Android scholarships through Udacity and in partnership with Bertelsmann for European mobile device developers.

Computer Science First– a free program which focuses on the education of students aged 9-14 both inside and outside school hours led by teachers. We will also strengthen our cooperation with national, regional and local governments, as well as private sector enterprises, so as to extend national training programs beyond the European Union.

I hope that in a year from now tens of thousands more Europeans will have to share stories with that of Carlo. There is so much room for improvement and we are here to help. "
