Google has launched an independent company that will use technology to improve city life. It is called Sidewalk Labs, and the Project Officer will be Daniel L. Doctoroff, who is the former Deputy Mayor of New York and former CEO of Bloomberg LP
Doctoroff captured the idea by discussing with a Google team led by Larry Page.
The project Sidewalk Labs according to TNW has been designed as an “urban innovation company” that will explore sustainable living by reducing pollution and energy use, making transportation easier, offering more greenery and reducing overall living costs for residents, businesses and government agencies.
Sidewalk Labs intends to develop the products and technology platforms that city residents can use to better manage energy use, improve communities, and more.
According to a Google+ post by Google Larry Page:
"Ασ Many urban challenges are interrelated, for example, the availability of transport affects the place people choose to live, something that affects housing prices, which affects the quality of life. That is why it will help you to start from the beginning and to have a view of the big picture in the multiple factors that affect the life of the city. Then you can develop technologies and partnerships to make a difference. ”
Let's say that Doctoroff has extensive experience in managing urban issues after six years of office as Deputy Mayor, and Google will provide both technical expertise and project funding.
